As part of a book proposal I am putting together I have spent several hours trying to find the numbers on how many C# and .NET developers are out there and I have failed miserably.  The best I could find was that there are 4.3 million Windows developers and 5 million VS.NET developers.  Why more VS.NET than Windows developers you ask?  I am guessing that is because there is no IDE as great as VS.NET so many Unix/Linux developers use VS.NET even though they are not developing for the Windows platform.  If you happen to have any links to statistics like this I would be most grateful if you would pass them on.  Thanks!

Okay, I am sure I am understating the problem but couldn't one implement C# templates via some search and replace algorithm similar to that used by a C++ macro.  I realize this is not ideal or anything (especially since Microsoft announced support for templates in some future version past Everet) but it seems one could at least get part of the way.  Anyway, in an effort to investigate this further I signed up for the Microsoft® Visual Studio.Net® Integration Program (VSIP).  If you are going to integrate with VS.NET for internal use/not for resale purposes only then you can wave the $100,000 entrance fee.  After signing up I was told to please contact us at vsipinfo@summsoft.com or call 315.445.9000.  I am going to wait and see if they contact me first or not.  Ultimately, I simply want to get a looksey at the SDK to see how easy it would be to implement a C# template language.
