I have recently got two parking tickets (my first).... and thought these signs rather appropriate for the occasion.

Crossover Cable
Google Search It
It is amazing how you think you understand something and then along comes a obvious piece of knowledge that everybody knows but you had completely missed.  This happened to me yesterday for the umpteenth time.  Generally, whenever I set up a hub/switch I use the up-link port for the cable coming from the wall/network room/another hub/switch.  This past week I was using a switch that someone else had setup and they had not used the up-link port.  This was puzzling to me until I realized that instead they had used a crossover cable from the wall into the hub.  I have used crossover cables to connect two computers directly without a hub but it never occurred to me that the purpose of an up-link port was to essentially switch the wires such that there was a crossover cable between the wall/network room/another hub/switch.  Dahhh!
