I came up with what I thought was a great definition of a type, such as a C# type.
"It is a taxonomic group designated as the representative example of all the items that belong to the group because of common characteristics identified by the taxonomy."
Even though the word spell checker has not problem with the words, no one else seems to know the definition of taxonomic or even taxonomy so my definition has been rejected. I guess it is reasonable to suggest that definitions be understandable.
